Room 8 Studio is looking for a Lighting Artist with Unreal Engine knowledge. Lighters are responsible for adding the lighting to games that create atmosphere and add realism, tone, and depth to a scene. Lighters emphasise drama or narrative, and also establish and clarify location, weather, time of day, etc. You will need to use your technical skill as well as your aesthetic judgment to create images that not only look good but are easy to render. You must be able to refer to the relevant production designs and apply that visual style as faithfully as possible, taking care to maintain continuity throughout the scene and game.

Superpowers
you have are

  • Understanding of Unreal Engine rendering pipeline and lighting setups, shading;
  • Sets up scene lights to match color keys and concept art, with understanding of lighting aesthetics to keep artistic style consistent with defined visual style for the game;
  • Create and maintain all elements of lighting i.e. dynamic, prebaked, interior and exterior setups;
  • Maintain a balance between visual quality and performance requirements for real-time game application;
  • Participate in R&D of new techniques to implement into production pipeline;
  • Pipeline development and technical guides creation;
  • Work with art leads and designers to create compelling lighting for a variety of environments while maintaining a consistent style throughout the game;
  • Intermediate English level and above.

You’re a rockstar
if you have

  • A minimum of 3 years game development experience, lighting a variety of in-game environments;
  • A portfolio or demo reel that demonstrates a keen eye for detail and the ability to use light, shadow, and color to create a variety of tones and moods;
  • Thorough understanding of real-time lighting techniques;
  • Self-motivation, good communications skills, and a great team player;
  • Experience working with Unreal Engine;
  • Having worked through an entire production cycle and having previously shipped AAA PC or console titles in a similar role.
